In the framework of NATELI II Energy Capacity Activity the
project organized two seminars on Doctoral Programs in Energy and Electrical Engineering in the United States. The seminars
were held on January 20, 2012 in Tbilisi at GTU and on January 25, 2012 in
Kutaisi at Akaki Tsereteli State University.
The goal of the seminar was to introduce
the participants to the structures of PhD Programs in the United States,
particularly in the areas of ‘Energy and Environmental Policy’ and ‘Electrical
and Power Engineering’.
The seminar on Doctoral Programs in Energy and
Electrical Engineering in the United States was conducted by NATELI II
Education Expert Mr. Hameed Nezhad, Ph.D. Professor at Metropolitan State
University, in the USA.
The seminar in Tbilisi was attended by representatives of the Georgian Technical University (GTU), Grigol Robakidze State University, the International School of Economics (ISET), the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Association of Young Professionals in Energy of Georgia (AYPEG). The seminar in Kutaisi was attended by representatives of Akaki Tsereteli State University and the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission.
The seminar topics covered:
- The Structure of the Education System in the United States
- Ph.D. Dissertation Process
- Ph.D. Programs in Energy-Related Areas
- Ph.D. Programs in Electrical/Power Engineering
- Doctoral Program - practical advices for potential candidates of doctoral programs.
In the second part of the seminar the presenter held a discussion on some critical issues for the development of Ph.D. programs in Georgia.
