Khiso
Kekhmori Micro Hydropower Plant Rehabilitation  

Construction of Kekhmori MHP Started in 2008. The purpose of the hydro power plant construction is to supply power to Khiso and surrounding villages, which were not supplied by electricity for over 15 years, as well as support tourism and local economic development in the district. With technical and financial assistance from the Rural Energy Program and SPDA program, the facility generates up to 80 kWhs. 


Rural Energy Program assistance has included:

  • Preparation of pre-feasibility studies
  • Completion of project technical design documents
  • Development of a work plan and activities schedule
  • Development of construction management plans and on-site management assistance
  • Completion of an Environmental Management Plan
  • Provision of a $86,640.69 grant
  • Development and institution of an operation and maintenance program

Project Activities: 

  • Procurement  of two turbine generator sets
  • Procurement of the control system
  • Construction of the water intake structure
  • Construction and installation of the penstock (520 meters)
  • Installation of gates
  • Construction of a road to the headworks
  • Construction of the powerhouse building
  • Construction of the tailrace

Results:

  • Installed capacity of Kekhmori hydro power plant is 80kW;
  • The operation of the hydro power station  positively affected economic and social conditions in the community as well as provides incentives for small business development in the region permit residents to live in this high mountain area year –round.

Energy Bus travelled to Khoni,Tskhaltubo, Zestaphoni & Bagdati districts in Imereti region from February 13 to March 8, 2012.

 

In frames of NATELI 2 Grants Program 20 applications have been selected for the next stage of consideration.

The Energy Bus continues traveling around Georgia. From December 19, 2011 to February 10, 2012 the Energy Bus visited Lanchkhuti district in Guria and Kutaisi, Vani and Samtredia in Imereti Region.

In the framework of NATELI II Energy Capacity Activity the project organized two seminars on Doctoral Programs in Energy and Electrical Engineering in the United States. The seminars were held on January 20, 2012 in Tbilisi at GTU and on January 25, 2012 in Kutaisi at Akaki Tsereteli State University.
