Grand Opening of Misaktsieli SPH

U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, John F. Tefft, and representatives of the Georgian Government will participate in the opening of the Misaktsieli Small Hydropower Plant in the village of Misaktsieli, Mtskheta-Tianeti region. The opening will be conducted by USAID’s Rural Energy Program in cooperation with the Small Hydro Power Plant owner.
Misaktsieli Small Hydropower Plant’s new owner, Ento Ltd. and the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Rural Energy Program recently completed a $700,000 rehabilitation and modernization of the facility. USAID provided a $150,000 grant for the rehabilitation; the remainder was funded through private investment and commercial loans. In addition to the financial support, the Rural Energy Program provided technical assistance and training to the owners and investors. With the upgrades, Misaktsieli will generate 2,600 kW in clean renewable energy to individuals and businesses in the Mtskheta-Tianeti region.
Misaktsieli is one of eight small hydropower plants reopening with support from USAID and the Rural Energy Program. The Rural Energy Program is in the final year of a four-year, $11.5 million initiative that will add over 10 megawatts of clean renewable energy to the Georgian grid.
