ACTIVITY 2: Rural Energy Project Financing

Many IPPs throughout Georgia have been unoperational for years. Due to rural local and the operational status of the IPPs identified by the Rural Energy team, the possibility of attending business develop and/or management training workshops has been nonexistent for most CBO’s.
The main tasks of Activity 2 include:
- Providing Utility Management Training;
- Providing Business Development Services; and
- Developing Operational and Management Plans.
The Rural Energy Program will provide the IPP owner operators with intensive training on technical and financial aspects of IPP management. Rural Energy Program will develop a series of courses to meet the needs of IPP managers, technical staff and finance and administration personnel.
Although other donor-funded projects are expected to be involved in providing standardized training applicable to all Georgian businesses (e.g. accounting), the majority of training required to ensure the long-term sustainability of CBO-owned and operated IPPs will come from the Rural Energy Program. This will include providing utility management training, business development services, and operation and maintenance training.
