ACTIVITY 3: Improve Capacity in Rural Energy and Alternative Energy Applications

Alternative Energy Applications
Alternative Energy Applications

Georgia has considerable potential for renewable energy and energy efficiency applications. Implementation of these alternatives will greatly assist in securing energy self-sufficiency in the rural areas. However- several barriers- limited consumer awareness, a lack of policy and regulatory support, lack of access to technology information and expertise and a lack of access to soft credit- have impeded the efforts to promote these options.

Rural Energy Program will identify Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Interventions (RE/EE) in target communities; Provide TA for RE/EE Implementation Plans; Administer a Grants Program for Installation of RE/EE Interventions; Supervise the Execution of Selected RE/EE Interventions; and Establish a Georgia Energy Program Support Office (GEPSO).

Of these tasks, the first four are linked to each other, which would culminate in a sustainable RE/EE intervention program among the selected rural communities, while the GEPSO task will be executed at the national level to provide macro level support to such intervention programs under the Rural Energy Program and beyond.
