Program Activities
The Rural Energy Program will use an integrated approach to build local capacity for developing and managing clean energy projects and support better management and use of natural resources.
Key Activity Directions:
To achieve the goal of creating sustainable energy system through diversified renewable energy supply and increased efficiency in the energy sector, the Rural Energy Program will pursue the following primary objectives:
- The Rural Energy Program will work with IPPs to arrange project financing from various sources, including loan funding available through the Rural Energy credit mechanism, local cash and in-kind contributions, and other sources.
- The Rural Energy Program will provide the IPP owner operators with intensive training on technical and financial aspects of IPP management.
- Rural Energy Program will identify Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Interventions (RE/EE) in target communities.
- Rural Energy Program will increase local capacity to prepare and implement Integrated Resource Management Plans (IRMPs).
- The Rural Energy Program takes part in the energy policy reform process by providing assistance to the Ministry of Energy. The Rural Energy Program focuses primarily on promoting policy to enhance the financial and economic situation of small hydro power (SHP) projects.
- The Rural Energy Program implements public outreach and participation measures to promote all activities implemented by the Program.
